Taiwan to begin steel import licensing

Sources in Taiwan reported that effective April 15, Taiwanese users of 471 different steel products, now require import licenses to import their steel. Taiwanese insiders indicated that raw materials for steel and semi-products are not included. The Taiwanese government reportedly made the decision to implement import licensing as a response to increased trade protectionism. Sources say this is a direct result of U.S. safeguard measures. Major items to be controlled include: - hot rolled - cold rolled - coated steel - stainless steel
