Taiwan considers to turn four ports into free trade zone

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications in Taiwan are working on a project to convert four ports of the country into free trade zones. These ports are namely Kaohsiung, Taichung, Keelung and Hualien. Port of Kaohsiung is located at a hub of international sea lanes and it also is a major port in the Asia-Pacific region. It also has an industrial area and an export processing zone. Port of Taichung is considered convenient to be designed for various specific uses. Port of Keelung is suitable as a transhipment port for the Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, New Zealand and Australian sea lanes. For the Hualien port, lower land and manpower costs are seen as the main advantages.
