Taiwan allows Chinese steel product imports

According to latest industry reports, Taiwan has confirmed accepting to receive steel imports from China mainland, starting from August 1, 2003. It is commented that such decision is taken counting on the strong demand for steel in China itself, and the Chinese producers focusing on supplying their own industry initially. Taiwanese authorities believe that Chinese imports will not constitute a threat to their industry for at least a couple of years, until the capacity expansion proceedings are completed in China. Industry experts state that no big volume of steel products is foreseen to be imported in the near future from China.
