According to the latest data released by Swedish Steel Producers' Association (Jernkontoret), in August this year Swedish crude steel production amounted to 308,200 metric tons, decreasing by 5.5 percent year on year and up 13.1 percent as compared to July this year.
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of the current year Swedish crude steel production amounted to 3,368,200 mt, with an increase of seven percent compared to the same period last year.
Swedish steel companies have focused production on more advanced steel qualities in order to retain their positions in the global market. The data show that currently around 60 percent of total Swedish production comprises alloyed steel. Jernkontoret indicates that in the rest of the EU, as well as in the USA and Japan, alloy steels only comprise 10-15 percent of production.
Jernkontoret also noted that, after the global recession that followed the financial crisis, at the end of 2009 the steel demand in Sweden started to recover and 4.8 million mt of crude steel was produced in Sweden in 2010, which is an increase of 73 percent year on year.
