Super Steel shares large railway contract

Super Steel Corporation has been named as a subcontractor on a $109 million contract between Virginia commuter railroad and New York-based Sumitomo Corp. of America. They will build 11 bi-level passenger rail cars for Virginia Railway Express, which carries passengers along a major railway artery linking Northern Virginia to Washington, DC. Headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Super Steel will hire about 50 people to complete the work. It will assemble the cars using components produced in Japan and the US. Recently, Super Steel was awarded a similar contract valued at nearly $400 million to provide 326 passenger rail cars for the Metra commuter railroad in Chicago. Founded in 1923, Super Steel specializes in the fabrication and assembly of rail cars. They also serve the construction, agricultural, and industrial sectors.
