Strike in Columbus Stainless ends with agreement
Spanish Acerinox' subsidiary Columbus
Stainless reported that upon reaching a settlement with NUMSA (The National Union of Metalworkers of South
Africa), the strike which started two weeks ago has ended yesterday. Accordingly, the five year agreement that Columbus
Stainless signed back in August with other two registered unions has been confirmed by NUMSA as well. The performance based agreement requires a wage rise ranging between 4.5-16%.
The main reason behind the failure of the strike was that the company was able to keep up its
production and delivery schedule during strike through some plans for the case, as previously reported at SteelOrbis.
NUMSA workers of the company consists 24% of the overall workforce of Columbus
Stainless.
