Sparrows Point Inc to operate at 50% capacity

According to reports, US Steelmaker International Steel Group facility Sparrows Point Inc. is going to be operating at 50% capacity during the month of September. Such a reduction in the operating capacity of the mill is due to lack of iron ore supply, according to sources. Sparrows Point has a production capacity of 3 million tons of continuous cast slabs, for hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized, galvalume and tin mill products. SteelOrbis previously reported that actual output is inadequate in the NAFTA market due to raw material shortages. Inventory levels of certain mills have decreased to serious lows. Sparrows Point Inc. is located on the Chesapake Bay, near Baltimore, Maryland and is the only domestic mill with direct ocean access.
