South Korea scrap imports reach 4.3 million mt YTD

According to South Korea’s Customs Department, South Korea imported 4.3 million mt of scrap in the January-September 2017 period. South Korea imported ferrous scrap from Japan (2.91 million mt), Russia (760,000 mt), the United States (300,000 mt), China (60,000 mt), the United Kingdom (40,000 mt), and other countries (230,000 mt).

South Korea is the world’s third largest importer of ferrous scrap after Turkey and India. South Korea imported 5.64 million mt in the full year 2016 and 2.9 million mt in the first six months of 2017.
