Brazilian longs producer Sinobras reported that expansion works related to its second rolling line are about to be concluded.
With investments estimated at $190 million, the second line of the Marabá Plant, located in the northern state of Pará, will have a rolling capacity of 500,000 mt per year, increasing the plant’s total capacity to 850,000 mt per year.
The rolling line will be able to produce rebar in coils and will include an electric substation and the transmission line, to feed the plant with energy from the Belo Monte hydroelectric plant, where Sinobras is a shareholder.
With its stake at Belo Monte, Sinobras is entitled to receive energy sufficient to feed the plant and also to serve part of the consumption in Marabá.
The training of the personnel that will operate the new line is being developed by the local arm of Italy’s Danieli, which was responsible for supplying the equipment.
