Siemens to supply cold rolling mill for Chinese stainless producer

Austria-based Siemens Metals Technologies has announced that it has received an order from China-based Beihai Chengde Stainless Steel Co. (Beihai Chengde) to supply a five-stand, continuous tandem cold rolling mill for its Beihai plant in Guangxi Province.
 
The rolling mill will have a capacity of 600,000 mt of cold strip per annum, and will be designed to produce AISI 200 and 300 series grades. The new rolling mill is scheduled to be commissioned in the middle of 2014.
 
Beihai Chengde is active in nickel mining and in the production of narrow stainless steel strip. The company intends to use the new cold rolling mill to start producing wide strip. The width of the strip will vary between 800 and 1,300 millimeters. Total production will reach 1.6 million mt of stainless steel per year as early as 2014, and 4 million mt in the final expansion stage in 2015.
