Shagang Group to build two blast furnaces with total 4 million mt capacity

The Industry and Information Technology Department of China’s Jiangsu Province has announced that Jiangsu-based Shagang Group, China’s largest private steelmaker, plans to begin construction of two 2,350 m³ blast furnaces in 2020 and 2021, which are expected to be put into operation in August 2021 and March 2023, respectively, adding 4 million mt of iron-making capacity.

At the same time, Shagang Group will close 5 million mt of iron-making capacity. Accordingly, the demolition of two 480 m³ blast furnaces and two 580 m³ blast furnaces will be carried out in August 2021, and the demolition of another two 480 m³ blast furnaces and two 580 m³ blast furnaces will be completed in March 2023.
