Salzgitter announces scrap surcharge

On the list prices of beams and sections from its Peine Trager GmbH division, German steel producer Salzgitter announced a scrap surcharge of €31 per ton for December 2003 deliveries, as per the latest market reports. This surcharge is effected due to the continuously rising scrap costs, as explained by the company. The scrap surcharge will be valid for the deliveries throughout December 2003 and Peine Trager GmbH division reserves the right to readjust this value for deliveries in January 2004. According to the statement made by company officials the surcharge is to be understood as an addendum to their current price list of March 1, 2003.
