Indian steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has signed a contract with Netherlands-based Danieli Corus Technical Services BV and India-based engineering, procurement and construction contracting company Tata Projects Ltd for the construction of a new greenfield Blast Furnace at its Rourkela Steel Plant, India.
The new Blast Furnace No. 5 will have an inner volume of 4,060 m³ and will be able to produce about 8,000 mt of hot metal per day. The facility will be built by the consortium on Turn-key basis.
The current four BF at Rourkela Steel Plant are capable of producing two million mt of hot metal per year.
The financial details have not been disclosed.
