According to the statistics released by the Indian government, Steel Authority of
India Ltd (
SAIL) produced 945'000 tons of saleable steel in April 2005, exceeding its monthly target by 6%.
SAIL produced 1.181 million tons of hot metal in April, 8% above target. Moreover, the company's 1.07 million tons of crude steel
production was 5% over target.
In year-on-year terms, April's saleable steel increased 28% and hot metal
production rose 35%.
