SAIL commissions new coke oven battery at Rourkela steel plant

India's state-owned steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has announced that it has commissioned the new coke oven battery No. 6 at Rourkela steel plant within the framework of modernization and expansion projects costing a total investment of INR 120 million ($2.1 million).
 
Due to the projects in question, the Rourkela plant will more than double its annual pig iron output capacity from the current level of 2 million mt to 4.5 million mt, resulting in improved crude steel and saleable steel capacity.
