Following the upswing in infrastructure construction, the Finnish steelmaker Rautaruukki (Ruukki) has announced the signing of two new contracts, including an agreement for the delivery of steel structures and foundation piles for the Särkijärvi bridge in Tampere, Finland and a delivery contract for almost six kilometers of large diameter steel pipe piles for the foundations of more than 20 bridges in the highway 5 improvement project in Kuopio, Finland.

In addition, Ruukki will deliver a total of 15 kilometers of scaffolding piles for the projects in Tampere and Kuopio. The orders are worth a total of around €4 million.

According to Ruukki, the company has a strong presence in transport infrastructure construction in the Nordic countries. During the autumn, Ruukki has signed contracts worth around €20 million for bridge projects, including these latest contracts.

Ruukki's focus areas in infrastructure construction are transport infrastructure and harbor construction and building foundations.

In the context of Ruukki's ‘capital markets day' for investors and analysts held in Helsinki on December 1, the company has stated that the main focus areas of its business remain unchanged, although in future operations will be run on a more product-focused driven basis than previous. Recent years have seen Ruukki build a strong manufacturing and sales network in the emerging markets and complete major investments to increase the manufacturing capacity of special steel products.

As regards competence development, to reduce the impact of fluctuations in the economic cycle on its businesses, Ruuki is seeking balance also from the markets in Western Europe and from businesses - such as infrastructure and renovation construction and residential construction products - that are less exposed to market cyclicality.
