Russian crude steel output rises in Jan 2008

In January 2008, Russia registered a five percent increase in its crude steel production year on year to 6.5 million metric tons.

In addition, during the period in question, Russia produced 4.7 million metric tons of pig iron - up 6.5 percent, 4.6 million metric tons of semi-finished products - up 3.5 percent, 3.1 million metric tons of long products - up 3.9 percent, and 2.2 million metric tons of flat rolled products - up two percent, all compared to January 2007. The above flat rolled production figure includes 700,000 metric tons of cold rolled and 1.5 million metric tons of hot rolled, down 2.6 percent and up 4.2 percent respectively year on year.
