The Russian government has decided to temporarily impose an import duty of 15 percent on hot rolled bars, up from the previous rate of five percent, for a period of nine months. Meanwhile, over the same period the five percent duty on copper waste and scrap will be reduced to zero. The government decision No. 229 dated April 3, 2009 becomes effective one month after its official publication.
The new 15 percent duty will impact hot rolled bars under the following HS Codes: 7213914900, 7213919000, and 7213999000.
Meanwhile, the zero percent duty will be effective for copper waste and scrap under the following HS Codes: 7404001000, 7404009100 and 7404009900.
