Rio Tinto: Iron ore production close to normal levels

Monday, 29 May 2006 15:36:50 (GMT+3)   |
Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto PLC announced today that iron ore production at its mines in Western Australia is back close to previous levels after a severe cyclone season impacted iron ore shipments negatively early this year. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, Rio Tinto issued force majeure declarations for its two iron ore units due to tropical cyclone Glenda. A company official said that this force majeure on the operations is likely to last for the whole of the year, although the production levels are close to normal levels. The official did not reveal the production loss in the previous and current quarter.
