Positive trend in Germany’s construction sector in H1

As reported by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in the first half of this year, new dwellings in Germany were 27.9 percent or 23,700 dwellings more than in the first half-year 2010, thus strengthening the already observed positive trend observed in 2010.

In the first half of 2011, residential building construction in Germany increased by 28.9 percent or 94,900 newly-built appartments more than in the same period last year, while demand for non-residential buildings was up by 9.3 percent on year-on-year basis. On the other hand, in the given period, authorized public building construction was down around 22.5 percent year on year Construction of factory buildings and workshop buildings was up 40.7 percent and construction of office buildings and administration buildings was up 26.3 percent, both as compared to the same period last year.
