POSCO introduces new technology in sheet production

According to recent news in the market, South Korean steel giant POSCO introduced new technology it will use in sheet production. For the new strip casting plant which will use this technology, POSCO will invest Won 98 billion ($84.5 million). Through the new technology, reheating and rolling process of slabs is reduced, production of hot rolled sheets gain speed and costs are reduced. The construction of the pilot plant, which started on June 4, is scheduled to be completed by June 2006. In line with the success of strip casting technology, POSCO will start to sell the technology by the end of 2007. The plant will have annual production capacity of 600'000 tons.
