POSCO expands blank capacity

South Korean steelmaker POSCO has decided to expand its Tailor Welded Blank (TWB) facility by 2004. The company is aiming to increase the production capacity of the TWB facility from 1.7 million tons to 3.6 million tons. POSCO estimates to spend Won 15.9 billion (approx. $13.6 million) for this expansion. POSCO is going to install linear welding equipment, multi-part welding equipment and slitting plant into the facility. This expansion will strengthen the company's competitiveness and help to meet customer's requirements. This decision is taken upon the increasing demand of TWB. With this expansion, the company expects to penetrate TWB markets in China and Southeast Asian countries.
