POSCO announces August 2003 results

Korean steel making giant POSCO announced its crude steel production amounted to 2.45 million tons in August with a 1.9% decrease compared to 2.50 million tons recorded in July. This result is at the same time 0.9% higher than the same period last year. Company's sales volume decreased by 4.6% to 2.3 million tons due to rainy season in South Korea. However, the result shows a 0.5% increase against August 2002. POSCO has reported its sales as Won 1.18 trillion in August with a 4.8% decrease compared to Won 1.24 trillion recorded in July while up by 15.2% against August 2002. Furthermore, company's operating profit increased by 38.5% to Won 270 billion over July. The figures are based on unaudited financial statements.
