Poland concludes to impose quotas & tariffs to steel imports

As a result of the investigations initiated last month, Poland made the decision to implement safeguard duties on the steel imports into the country. Initially Polish authorities were intending to bring US style safeguard measures however, EU insisted that the tariff and quota system is applied. Therefore the quota levels are calculated on the basis of the last three years average imports. The introduced preliminary duties are ranging between 11-25% for 10 products to be valid for 200 days from the date of announcement of decree. The aim of these temporary duties is to protect the local steel industry as the local mills are losing market share to imports. Expected Polish safeguard quotas and duty rates
