Nucor announced plans to build a new rebar micro-mill in Sedalia, Missouri with a reported investment of at least $250 million and the creation of about 250 new jobs once construction is complete. The new facility is expected to open in 2019.

Missouri’s Economic Development Department spokeswoman Maggie Kost said the company could get as much as $27.3 million in economic incentives over the next 15 years. She added that Nucor was likely attracted to Missouri due to a recent law that allows steel mills and other major electricity users to negotiate lower electricity rates for longer contracts. Missouri was selected over Kansas, Nebraska, South Carolina, and Florida.
