Nucor speaks out against unfair trade

Over 3'000 people gathered at the Darlington Raceway in South Carolina Tuesday night (November 1) to rally against what Nucor Corp. president Dan DiMicco labeled as unfair trade practices. Mr. DiMicco told the crowd at the Nucor-sponsored event that lawmakers and business leaders need to fight cheap foreign steel imports as well as the loss of manufacturing jobs across the country . According to Mr. DiMicco, three million manufacturing jobs have been lost since 1998, and that more than 80'000 of those jobs were in North Carolina. Mr. DiMicco urged the audience to pressure lawmakers to “level the playing field” so that US manufacturers can compete against foreign companies. Nucor has held similar small town rallies in the past, and Mr. DiMicco has been publicly outspoken about his concern over the danger of unfair trade practices and cheap imports. The Darlington event was the biggest Nucor-sponsored town meeting thus far.
