Nucor plans to invest $27M in new plant

Charlotte, North Carolina-based Nucor Corp. announced Thursday it plans to build a new plant in the Western US to manufacture metal building systems and components. The expected cost of the plant is approximately $27 million, with a projected annual capacity of 45,000 nt. Nucor already has building systems plants in Indiana, South Carolina, and Texas, with combined annual capacity of over 145,000 nt. Executive VP Hamilton Lott Jr. told press, "It has always been our intention to be a larger player in the pre-engineered metal buildings industry. The addition of this fourth plant will increase our capacity by more than 30 percent." The company says that construction will commence after a site location is decided upon and certain regulatory approvals are achieved.
