In 2010,
NLMK-Long Products, a division of Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk Steel (
NLMK), saw its
production rise to 1.65 million mt - up one percent year on year, while its sales increased to 1.61 million mt - up four percent year on year, demonstrating a gradual recovery in the market underpinned by stabilization in the broader economy and growth in steel demand from the construction and infrastructure sectors.
Specifically, in 2010,
NLMK-Long Products sold 243,000 mt of billets - up 1.7 percent, 856,000 mt of
rebar - down 4.4 percent, 289,000 mt of
wire rod - up 29.2 percent, and 291,000 mt of metalware - up 16.6 percent, all compared to 2009.
In addition,
NLMK-Long Products'
scrap sales in 2010 were up by 31 percent compared to 2009 to 3.16 million mt, driven by growing demand in the steel sector.
NLMK-Long Products division, which was consolidated in December 2009, constitutes an integrated
production structure covering the entire cycle from collection and processing of ferrous
scrap to manufacturing downstream steel products.
NLMK-Long Products' key companies are NSMMZ and UZPS. The Kaluga EAF Mini-Mill, with a planned capacity of up to 1.5 million mt per year of long products, is currently under construction.
NLMK's
production structure also includes a ferrous
scrap collecting and processing division, Vtorchermet
NLMK, that provides raw materials for
steelmaking facilities at
NLMK-Long Products.
