Japan-based Nippon Steel Corporation, one of the leading global steelmakers, today announced that it will renovate its furnace No. 3 at Nagoya Works to maintain and further enhance competitiveness of its upstream production. After the completion of renewal works, advanced IT and other leading-edge technologies from Japan and abroad will be adopted in the No. 3 blast furnace in order to stabilize production and increase its productivity. The blast furnace was renewed almost 20 years ago.

On February 7, 2020, the company decided to implement new production facility structural measures, due to increasing competition in the overseas market, falling domestic steel demand and the need of large-scale investment for renewal of the company’s steelmaking facilities over the medium to long term.

The Nagoya Works is one of the world’s leading steelworks in optimal integrated manufacturing technology of steel sheets for automobiles.
