New roads built in China in 2013 total 70,274 km

According to China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), China's overall fixed asset investments in transportation, warehousing and postal services in 2013 amounted to RMB 3.6194 trillion ($593.3 billion) in 2013, up 17.2 percent compared with the previous year. Meanwhile, newly-added roads in China in 2013 totaled 70,274 km in length, with highways accounting for 8,260 km, while China's newly-added railways in 2013 amounted to a total of 5,586 km, with high-speed railways accounting for 1,672 km. In addition, newly-added port handling capacity in China in the given year totaled 331.19 million mt.

According to the NBS, the total volume of cargo transported in China in 2013 amounted to 45.1 billion mt, up 9.9 percent year on year. As of the end of 2013, the total number of the civilian automobiles in China reached 137.41 million, up 13.7 percent year on year.
