The Trump Administration may put into play more tools in addressing trade actions with foreign entities. A new bill being led by Republican Majority Whip Senator John Cornyn of Texas is the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act (FIRRMA). FIRRMA seeks to strengthen the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US Treasury Department (CFIUS). The group reviews the national security risks posed by acquisitions, mergers, and other foreign investments in the US including those posing monopoly risks. The bill is under development and includes items such as infrastructure, defense, technology, etc.
