A precautionary notice was issued to workers at Evraz’s Regina, Saskatchewan tubular division, with recent harsh winter storms as a probable factor.  A notice from the union indicted that Evraz is having problems shipping pipe to its customers.

While the layoffs are not assured, if they do happen they would only be temporary, according to remarks by an Evraz spokesperson talking to CBC News Friday.

"In light of the diligence of our Evraz team members and the Canadian Pacific and Canadian National railroads, we are optimistic that the issues will be resolved over the next couple of weeks and we will be able to avoid a production curtailment and related layoff," said Melodie Ruse of Evraz in an email to CBC News.
