Russian steel mill Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it has started first category capital repairs at its blast furnace (BF) No. 2, which are scheduled to last 110 days.

Accordingly, the overhaul is directed towards the modernization of MMK's main facilities and towards the improvement of the technical and economic characteristics of its BF shop.

Within the scope of the capital repairs, a bell-less feeder will be set up at the blast-furnace as part of MMK's program of replacing two-bell feeders with bell-less ones in order to reduce coke consumption, to increase productivity and to decrease emissions into the environment. Over the last few years, bell-less feeders have been installed at MMK's BFs No. 4, No. 6, No. 9 and No. 10.
