MMK: Russia's coated steel consumption rises

During the "MMK-2007. Steel with coating. New perspectives" conference hosted by Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), discussion focused on the rising consumption tendency in various types of coated steels in both the Russian domestic and global markets.

MMK deputy sales director Mr. Boris Basov concentrated in his presentation on the current tendencies in the Russian domestic consumption of galvanized steel and pre-painted steel products.

Speaking about the Russian domestic market, Mr. Basov pointed out that in 2006 Russian galvanized steel consumption, according to MMK estimates, increased to 1.85 million metric tons compared to 1.5 million metric tons in 2005. Meanwhile, the domestic consumption of pre-painted steel in 2006 went up to 870,000 metric tons compared with 650,000 metric tons registered in 2005. Mr. Basov continued by adding that in the current year the domestic consumption of galvanized steel may reach 2.1 million metric tons, while that of pre-painted steel may increase to one million metric tons.
