Russian steel mill Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has finished the reconstruction of the mechanical part of equipment of its hot rolling mill 2000.
Supplied by Ukraine-based Novokramatorskiy Machine Building Plant, the new equipment used in the reconstruction was worth more than Ruble 560 million ($23.671 million) and will allow MMK to produce greater thicknesses and to improve the mechanical properties of its products.
Within the scope of the renovation work, at the beginning of the year MMK started operating two hydraulic winders (no.4 and no.5), which allow the mill to roll sheet of 18 mm thickness (tube billet) into coils weighing up to 43 mt.
The mill's reconstruction will be completed following the start up of its fourth reheating furnace and completion of modernization of the automatic control system of the technological processes. The completion of the latter is planned for November 2008.
