MMK issues Q1 production results

The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has released its production results for the first three months of 2008.

Accordingly, during the given period the mill recorded a 14.4 percent increase in its crude steel production to 3.598 million metric tons and a 12.2 percent rise in its finished steel production to 3.287 million metric tons. Splitting the latest figures, we can see that in the first quarter of 2008 MMK produced 431,000 metric tons of semis, 485,000 metric tons of flat products, 1.61 million metric tons of HR steel, 411,000 metric tons of CR steel, 160,000 metric tons of galvanized steel and 18,000 metric tons of pipes.

In addition, MMK saw a 13.7 percent increase in pig iron production year on year to 2.613 million metric tons in the first quarter of 2008.
