The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the conclusion of an equipment supply agreement with Czech supplier CKD EXPORT for construction of air separation units No.5 and No.6 for MMK's oxygen station No.5.

The project is being implemented with the aim of increasing the output of air separation units to allow MMK to secure crude steel production at the level of no less than 16 million mt a year.

Following the implementation of the project for the construction of the two new air separation units, MMK will be able to increase volumes of under pressure air, nitrogen and argon and also the production of liquid nitrogen, oxygen and argon for the needs of steel melting and blast furnace production.

Both air separation units were designed by Russian engineering company Kriogenmash.

The first unit is to be commissioned within 29 months and the second unit within 40 months following the enforcement of the supply deal with CKD EXPORT.
