The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that in September its new polymer coating line No. 2, the trial start of which was held on July 24 this year, is scheduled to produce 12,500 mt of color coated steel, which is about 70 percent of the line's monthly designed capacity of 17,000-18,000 mt. In August, the line produced 3,000 mt of coated steel.
Meanwhile, MMK is continuing the hot trial of its polymer coating line No. 2, with the specialists of the supplier of the line, Italian company FATA Hunter, proceeding with their work at MMK's coating workshop. In about one month's time, MMK plans to produce its newest rolled steel product with decorative textured coating and with protective film.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, MMK's second polymer coating line, comprising hot and cold laminators and an option for an embossing roll and a tension leveler, has an annual capacity of 200,000 mt. The products will be mainly supplied to the construction industry, which in general consumes about 60 percent of the output of these products. The second polymer coating line will allow MMK to step up its production of high quality color coated sheets to 400,000 mt per year, and to increase the share of its value added products.
