The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the completion of the construction of the fourth reheating furnace of the flat rolling mill 2000 in its flats workshop No. 10.
Currently, MMK is carrying out startup works for the new reheating furnace, under the supervision of specialists from French engineering company Stein Heurtey which supplied the furnace in question. The present load capacity of slabs at the furnace is up to 3,500 mt per day. The official startup of the furnace is planned for August 2008.
MMK's flat rolling mill 2000, which commenced production in 1994, has an annual production capacity of 5.5 million mt of hot rolled sheet. This figure is expected to increase to six million mt of hot rolled sheets following the reconstruction of the mill, which is to be completed upon the startup of heating furnace No.4, and following the completion of the modernization of the automatic control system of the technological processes.
