Mechel to restart production at Vyartsilya Metal

Russian steel producer Mechel Steel Group has announced that production at Vyartsilya Metal Products Plant will restart operations by December 23, 2004. Due to fire that broke out at the plant on December 18, 2004, the production was halted. The fire, not causing any life loss, destroyed 1'500 m² of the production facilities. Although the plant will restart operating by December 23, 2004, the repair works will continue till the end of January 2005 and the production will be fully restored in the first quarter of 2005. According to the experts, the fire was caused by a short circuit in a transformer unit of the plant.
