Mechel Targoviste prepares to launch new caster

The Russian steelmaker Mechel has announced that its Romania-based subsidiary Mechel Targoviste has finished all necessary preparatory works on its new continuous billet caster which it is now ready to put into operation. The company's investment in the billet caster totaled $14 million. With the new caster it will be possible to produce billet in sizes of 120x120 mm, 140x140 mm and 150x180 mm from various grades of steel. The new caster will allow Mechel Targoviste to finally abandon the usage of blooms in steel production.
