Mechel issues strong financial results for Q1

One of the leading Russian mining and steel groups, Mechel, has announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2007.

According to the company's release, in Q1 2007 Mechel's revenue increased by 65.9 percent, its net operating income by 455.4 percent, net income by 226 percent and EBITDA by 164.5 percent year on year. The respective figures in US$ were 1.4 billion, 327.7 million, 205 million and 355.5 million. The company's EBITDA margin increased from 15.7 percent in Q1 2006 to 25.1 percent in Q1 2007.

The company commented that the strong results were achieved due to the high selling prices across Mechel's main product categories and due to the high sales volumes during the period in question.
