Mazda Toyota venture begins construction of $1.6 billion plant in Alabama

The joint venture between Mazda and Toyota has installed its first steel column to mark the beginning of the $1.6 billion auto plant being built in Huntsville, Alabama. The Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA facility is slated for completion by 2021. The site will be capable of manufacturing 300,000 vehicles annually.

The company plans to employ up to 4,000 at the site. Presently, Toyota Corolla and a new Mazda hybrid vehicle are planned for production at the plant.
