The Russian industrial group MAIR has announced that by spring of next year it will complete the first stage of the reconstruction of its Rostov region-based longs subsidiary Sulinsky Metal Factory (STAKS).

In the process of the first stage of the modernization work, the installation of new rolling equipment is planned for August 2008, while it is expected to be put into operation by December 2008. Meanwhile, last week MAIR commissioned a new press shear at the plant with an annual scrap processing capacity of 350,000 mt. In addition, by the end of the year two new press shears with annual scrap processing capacities of 450,000 mt each will also be installed at STAKS.

As a result of the first modernization phase, the mill will be able to increase its annual longs production capacity to 550,000 mt and its annual billet production capacity to 450,000 mt.
