It has been reported that the Russian scrap processor Industrial Group MAIR (MAIR) is considering the building of a new steel mini-mill in Ukraine.

The construction works for the new mini-mill are planned to begin in two-to-three years' time, upon completion in 2008 of reconstruction works at MAIR's Sulinsky Metal Factory (STAKS), which is located in the Rostov region.

The total investment in the STAKS renovation amounts to about $100-150 million. Upon completion of the modernization work, the plant will produce 0.8-1.0 million metric tons of rebar and billets a year.
