Brazil-based Magnesita Refratários S.A. (Magnesita), a global producer of refractory materials and provider of refractory solutions for the steel industry, has announced that it plans to invest in an additional 28,000 tons of capacity in its York, Pennsylvania, US facility.

The said investment will strengthen Magnesita's US operating capabilities, support growth and innovation and will position the company for future growth in the North American steel and industrial market segments.

The investment will mainly enhance Magnesita's refractory basic brick production.  Engineering and infrastructure work has begun and the first of two new presses is to be installed by late summer 2012.

According to the company statement, Magnesita will leverage its vast high quality magnesite reserves located in Brumado, Brazil to support growing raw material demand from the York operations.
