Germany-based steel service center group Klöckner & Co. reported higher sales volumes and income over the first six months of 2011. Sales were up by 40.8 percent year-on-year and sales volumes increased by 24.1 percent to 3.3 million tons. Sales volumes gained 62.3 percent in the Americas segment. Net income was €50 million (US$71 million), compared with €49 million (US$69.6 million) in prior-year period.

Klöckner & Co. explained that although there was a noticeable downtrend in steel prices in Q2 after a sharp rise in Q2, Q2 brought a major boost to overall sales volumes and sales from the acquisition of Macsteel Service Centers USA.
