The Lecco, Italy-based wire rod mill of Italian steelmaker Lucchini will adopt an extreme measure to face the deep crisis it is currently going through. For a full year starting from September 27, the 90 employees of the mill are to work part-time.
The mill can currently count upon orders amounting to 12,000 mt, which is enough for about two weeks of full-time work but which is still low compared to the average normal monthly output of 30,000 mt.
Labour unions have communicated satisfaction with the decision, "We are pleased that Lucchini has accepted to face this critical situation through this job-security agreement, as it guarantees the workers the payment of 80 percent of their salaries and the conservation of their workplace
