In January-October 2007, Guangxi region-based Liuzhou Steel exported 295,000 mt of steel products to member countries of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), such as Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia and Philippines, for a total of $148 million. These figures represent a doubling of both export volume and revenues compared to the whole of 2006.

The Guangxi autonomous region is in close proximity to the ASEAN countries, and this geographic advantage favors the development by Guangxi of the ASEAN region as its main export market. Liuzhou Steel has already become the steel production base for the China-ASEAN "ten plus one" cooperation project.
