Lianyuan Steel to generate its own power
China's Hunan province based steelmaker Lianyuan Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd (Lianyuan Steel) ordered a gas turbine from Japanese heavy machinery manufacturer Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) to use at its power plant to be constructed.
The order covers a M251S gas turbine that will be used in combination with a steam turbine to generate 50 MW (megawatts) of electricity.
With the gas turbine, Lianyuan Steel will use exhaust gas from its blast furnace to produce electricity for its own needs. The power plant will go on stream in May 2007.
Two other Chinese steelmakers, Maanshan Iron & Steel Company and Handan Iron & Steel Company had also ordered the same tribune earlier in the year.
